Stop Monsanto’s secret plan to Kill GMO Labeling!
By admin in Environmental Justice, Featured Homepage Items, Take Action Tags: anti-GMO, environmental issues, food safety, genetically modified foods, GMO, organic farming, sustainable farming
Breaking: The Monsanto Protection Act is Back and WORSE than ever! Once again Monsanto and giant food companies are scheming behind the scenes to pass a bill in Congress that would kill mandatory GMO labeling efforts and replace it with a gutted version that will preempt states’ rights and give the illusion of oversight. This week, Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) has reintroduced an updated version of his deceptive bill, H.R. 1599, AKA the Ultimate Monsanto Protection Act, to try to convince members of Congress to violate state’s rights in an effort to kill GMO labeling.
This is a blatant power grab to deny Americans their basic right to mandatory GMO labeling and protect flawed GMO products – and we can’t allow them to get away with it. We need your help today. Every voice counts!

Pass the 2015 Pollinator Protection Act! Please Support Labeling & Restricting Bee-Killing Pesticides in Maryland
By admin in Environmental Justice, Featured Homepage Items, Take Action Tags: bees, environmental issues, food safety, pesticides, sustainable farming
The growing and widespread use of toxic neonicotinoid pesticides (“neonics”) is a major contributor to the alarming decline of honey bees. This poses a serious threat to our food supply, to wildlife and to human health. We need to pass the 2015 Pollinator Protection Act (SB163/HB605) to label nursery plants treated with toxic, bee-killing pesticides and restrict their consumer use.
Beekeepers have reported average hive losses of 30 percent or higher each year since 2006; in 2012, Maryland beekeepers lost nearly 50 percent of their hives. These numbers are simply not sustainable.

Scientists know what’s killing our bees and putting our food supply at risk: An insecticide called “neonics.” But one Big Ag giant has actually asked the EPA to let it use up to 4,000% MORE of this deadly toxin! This could cripple our food supply! The EPA is taking public comments on this issue until […]

Tell the EPA: Don’t let BP drill for oil in the Gulf – the EPA is close to cut deal allowing BP to start securing federal contracts and new leases to drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico
By admin in Environmental Justice, Take Action Tags: environmental issues, Gulf Oil, oil and gas
Since pleading guilty to criminal charges related to the catastrophic Gulf of Mexico oil spill, BP has rightly been suspended by the Obama administration from bidding on federal contracts and oil leases. But according to the president of BP America, the EPA is close to cutting a deal which would lift the suspension and allow […]
MARYLANDERS – SUPPORT PESTICIDE DATA BASE 2014 – Gen. Assembly Bill HB 621 and SB 700: Registration of pesticides
By admin in Environmental Justice, Take Action Tags: environmental issues, Maryland, Maryland HB 621 and SB 700, Maryland Pesticide, pesticide, Registration of pesticides
We need to push the Governor O’Malley Administration and the Maryland General Assembly to pass this bill as it would be a significant first step toward a comprehensive, mandatory reporting pesticide use database. A 2014 General Assembly bill (HB 621/SB 700) would establish a dedicated fund for a pesticide reporting database through a modest $10 increase on the annual product registration fee paid by pesticide chemical manufacturers. The generated revenue would be used for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on pesticide use in the state.

It’s hard to go a day without hearing something in the news about the consequences of the oil and gas drilling rush across the United States.
Drillers Need To Clean Up Their Act
The rush is due in part to the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking—in which drillers blast millions of gallons of chemically treated water into the ground to force out the oil and gas. But the drilling boom has also been sped along by industry deregulation.
Thanks to exemptions from our bedrock environmental laws, oil and gas drilling operations don’t have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Three bills introduced in Congress would change this.

Last month, 50,000 bumble bees died after trees in Wilsonville, Oregon were sprayed with dinotefuran, the neonicotinoid ingredient in Safari pesticide. This was the largest bee die-off ever recorded. With bee populations declining across the around the country at an alarming rate, I urge you to support the “Save America’s Pollinators Act” to restrict the use of these chemicals until we can be assured that they are safe and being used properly.
