Carl called to tell of the family dog who saved his baby sister
I grew up in North Carolina on a farm. My father was a farmer. When I was a kid we had a German Sheppard dog named Trixie. When we was out in the field picking cotton — my mother always left the kids in the house with the baby in the house, in the cradle, so she could go back and forth and check on the kids. She heard the dog barking one day and she said, I better go to the house, that dogs been barking for about fifteen minutes. Id better go check on this dog. She went there and the kid, my sister, had got out of the crib and had crawled to the fire place and the dog was sitting in front of the fireplace. And the whole side of the dog was singed. The baby was trying to crawl across the dog and get to the fire
